When they first open, they?re as white as coconut frosting. Gradually they turn almost green. Plant the Water Hawthorne in shallow water and the blooms may display a crimson tinge; some will even have blush or garnet tones. Coal black stamens accent the blossoms whatever their color. In milder climates, the Water Hawthorne blooms into the fall and even winter, alternating with water lilies during dormant periods.
