“Can Prevent the Loss of Plants and Fish”

The following schedule has been developed to help you get a new pond (or newly cleaned pond) off to a good start - aiming to achieve a natural balance, and as a result, clear water. A pond will turn green, foamy, and have an odor in the first 90 days. To add water in chloramine areas put hose in bottom of pond and add water slowly. The purpose of this chart is to control the balance setup, not stop it. NOTE: Read instructions in the catalog for all chemicals you have purchased. Be aware of their capabilities and limitations.

Cutrine Pond Setup Chart

Note:

Use for ponds over 25,000 gallons.

DAY

PROCEDURE

Day 1

A. Use 2 oz. Quick Start per 100 gallons of pond water.

B. Float fish and snails for 30 minutes, then release.

C. Add 1 pound of Water Clarifier per 100 gallons of pond water.

D. Add 1/4-pound Formulated Fish Salts per 100 gallons of pond water.

E. Add 1 oz. Fish Stabilizer per 100 gallons of pond water.

F. Plant and install the recommended amounts of:

1) Oxygenating Grasses 2) Water Lilies

3) Bog Plants 4) Ornamental Grasses.

Day 5

A. Add 1-pound Water Clarifier per 100 gallons of pond water.

B. Add 1/4-pound Formulated Fish Salts per 100 gallons of pond water.

C. Add 1 oz. Fish Stabilizer per 100 gallons of pond water.

Day 10

Mix 1/8 teaspoon Cutrine-Plus per 100 gallons of pond water in one quart water. Mix well and spray solution on 1/2 the pond’s surface, being careful not to spray plant foliage. Note: One-quart hand sprayers available at Gardens are recommended.

Day 11

Repeat Cutrine-Plus treatment on second 1/2 of pond’s surface

Day 12

Repeat Cutrine-Plus treatment on first 1/2 of pond’s surface.

Day 14

Repeat Cutrine-Plus treatment on second 1/2 of pond.

Day 15

Repeat Cutrine-Plus treatment on second 1/2 of pond.

Day 17

Feed fish as much as they will eat in ten minutes (approximately one tablet per fish.)
Note: Overfeeding fish adds excess nitrogenous wastes to pond, fertilizing algae and endangering the health of your fish.

Day 20

A. Repeat Cutrine-Plus treatment of first 1/2 pond’s surface, increasing dosage to 3/8 teaspoon per 100 gallons of pond water.

B. Inspect containers to insure plants are still planted properly. Note: When underwater the soil will often pack, exposing rooting areas of aquatic plants. Also, if oxygenating grasses are floating, they will have to be replanted and a 6-inch wire mesh dome placed over the container to prevent the fish from eating them while they root.

Day 24

Feed fish as before.

Day 27

Repeat Cutrine-Plus treatment on second 1/2 of pond’s surface using 3/8-teaspoon per 100 gallons of pond water.

Day 31

Feed fish as before.

Day 34

Repeat Cutrine-Plus treatment of first 1/2 of pond’s surface using the 3/8-teaspoon per 100 gallons of pond water.

Day 38

Feed fish as before.

Day 41

Remove cap from Cutrine-Plus bottle and place ten inches below pond water surface. If cap is clearly visible, continue Cutrine-Plus treatment using 3/8 teaspoon per 100 gallons of pond water on second 1/2 of pond’s surface. Continue with treatment schedule going on to day 45. If view of cap is clouded, return to day 1 and start again deleting Salt, Stabilizer and Quick Start.

Day 45

Feed fish as before.

Day 47

Repeat Cutrine-Plus treatment using 3/8-teaspoon per 100 gallons pond water, spraying first 1/2 of pond’s surface.

Day 52

Feed fish as before.

Day 54

Cutrine-Plus treatment using 3/8-teaspoon per 100 gallons of pond water, spraying second 1/2 of pond’s surface.

Day 59

Feed fish as before.

At this time the pond will start to balance the control itself. It is important to continue chemical treatments as needed -at least once a month. Avoid the temptation to overfeed your fish. If the pond water is not clear, check the oxygenating grasses, replacing or replanting as needed. Refer to monthly chart.

Note:

Amounts required to complete chart: 2 lbs. Clarifier/100 gal.; 2 drops Fish Stabilizer/100 gal.; 1/2 lb. Formulated Fish Salts/100 gal.; 8 oz. Cutrine-Plus for ponds up to 5,000 gal.; 16 oz. Cutrine-Plus for ponds over 5,000 gal.; 2 oz. Quick Start per 100 gal.
